Nieuwe Kerk in Delft

Monday, January 31, 2011

It's blue Monday again and my entry for this week is the Nieuwe Kerk (English: New Church) in Delft, the Netherlands. We went to Delft last Saturday and I was fascinated with the architectural design of the church. The church tower is very high with a clock in front of it. The picture fits for my blue Monday meme because of the blue sky background.

The Nieuwe Kerk is a landmark church in Delft, the Netherlands. The building is located on Delft Market Square (Markt), opposite to the Delft City Hall (Dutch: Stadhuis). In 1584, William the Silent was entombed here in a mausoleum designed by Hendrick and Pieter de Keyser. Since then members of the House of Orange-Nassau have been entombed in the royal crypt. The latest are Princess Juliana (Queen of the Netherlands from 1948-1980) and her husband Prince Bernhard in 2004. The private royal family crypt is not open to the public.

Is that church straight? It looks like it's going to fall to the left.

Hmm maybe you are not standing straight in the picture haaa.

Anyway it is a nice picture, compliments to the photographer :D

What a pretty and large church. I would probably get lost in it. I enjoyed the history of it.

Girl, the church is awesome, it is very much vintage. Hmm I wonder how many long years it's standing there. My blue Monday is here http://www.mjoannafaith.com/2011/01/blue-monday-29-in-his-slumber.html
