Change of transportation

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Last Sunday my sister, younger bro and I were talking about the lifestyle changes. Since my younger brother did not have a chance to experience the old fashioned transportation that we used to have it before, which is the "kalesa" or the horse carriage, so he was so eager to listen and join us with our conversation. My sister and I experienced the carriage transportation, so we shared it to my brother the feeling and the experience that we had. I was six or seven years old when I still took a ride of a carriage, I remember that time that my mama and I took that ride when we went to the market. In that time, mostly people just walked when they went to the market, but people who carried too much stuff or lazy to walk, then they took this carriage. It was fun to ride it, but it's very noisy the footsteps of the horse.

A kalesa or calesa (sometimes called a karitela) is a horse-driven calash (carriage) used in the Philippines. The word, also spelled calesa, predates the Spanish conquest and descends ultimately from an Old Church Slavonic word meaning "wheels." This was one of the modes of transportation introduced in the Philippines in the 18th century by the Spaniards that only nobles and high ranked officials could afford. They are rarely used in the streets nowadays except in tourist spots and some rural areas. When the kalesa was introduced in the 18th century during the Spanish colonial period, it became one of the modes of transportation in the Philippines, especially for commerce. Rich Filipinos known as the ilustrados used the kalesa for personal travel as well as for the transport of goods to nearby areas.

Halloween Costumes

Yesterday, my nephew told me about the up coming event they will have at school. Their teacher informed them that they will have a Halloween disco party at school. He is 7 years old and it’s his first time to join this event, so he don’t know much about the Halloween party, so he asked me about what they will do on that event. When I explain to him, he was very excited already to join and he already starts to count down the days to Halloween event. Since he has no idea about the costumes, I browse through the net to show up to him a sample of the Halloween costumes. We both like this bobble head Ghost face and Captain Hook. I like this Captain Hook costumes because it fits for my nephew, to think that he sometimes imitate that Captain Hook in his own game and the costumes itself looks very adorable. And this Bobble Head Ghost Face is also unique because it’s scary and very cool outfit.

Hearing about this Halloween party from my nephew reminisce me the time when I did my internship for my teaching course; it was a good timing that the school where I was assigned has their Halloween disco party. It was my first time to join this because in my childhood life, we don’t have those. However I was assigned in children ages 7 years old, I was excited to see my students wearing in their wonderful and unique Halloween costumes. When the event started, I was amazed to see them in well prepared costumes; in fact one of my students won best in costume on that event. Well, he’s worthy for it because his not just preparing for his costumes but also the make up, he really look like a small Dracula.

Whenever you’re an avid fan of Halloween costumes, you can follow their page through Facebook. And If ever you're interested with any of those costumes you can avail it for FREE SHIPPING promotion that they offer.

Visiting the SM shopping mall and Makro

Monday, September 28, 2009

Last Saturday, my bestfriend and I visited the SM shopping mall. It was unplanned that we met on that day, but since she text on the same day, so I just asked her if she's free then both of us can go to SM. Good to know that she's free, so we met each other and first we went to Makro store. I heard that it's cheaper there for furniture, so I decide to go there to look for a new computer chair. My computer chair was broken already and now I'm using a mono block chair that hurt my butt if I sit for long. I found something nice chairs there, but I did not buy yet because I like 2 chairs and now, I'm confused which one I need to buy. The other one I like was very comfortable with something to lean on until my head, but it's a bit expensive for me (LOL) and the other one is just a normal computer chair like you can see in some internet café here in the city. Well, I still have few weeks to decide, so I just take my time, I don't want to be in a hurry or else I regret again if I buy directly without finalizing which one I like most.

After the Makro, we went directly to SM shopping mall; it's one of the malls here in my city. When we arrived there, the mall was a bit crowded and it's very noisy because there some local rock band contest. It's also crowded because its weekend and the mall offer 10% discounts mostly to all items they have. So I grab this opportunity to do some shopping because I'm looking something for my hubby, well, I found something that I like for him and for myself.

Changes of Google spelling or just an error

Sunday, September 27, 2009

This morning, when I open the internet, it automatically opens to the Google home page. I notice that there some changes in Google spelling, but before that, I thought that my home page was changed to another site. So I keep refreshing the site, hoping that I can go back to the original Google spelling, but it did not work, I wonder if this was a mistake or this could be the latest spelling of Google. It used to be Google that appear in the home site, but now it became Googlle. Instead of single letter L before, in the new spelling, it appears double letter L now. I asked my hubby if he noticed it also and yes he did. What about you, did you notice the latest Google spelling?

Sexy nighties

A few days ago when I visit the Limketkai mall here in my city, I saw in the department store a sexy nighties. As I look it in a far distance view, I found it already very attractive because of the blue color, it’s my favorite color ever since. Sometimes if I buy something, I admit that I also look for the color, haaaa a bit stupid but it happened sometimes. Anyway, this sexy nighties looks very attractive to me, not just the color but the style as well. I did not buy yet because I find it a bit expensive, but if I have extra money next month, then who knows maybe I get one of those. I used to wear this kind of nighties but only in a different kind of cloth, but this one I find it too sexy.

Typhoon hits some area in the Philippines

Some area of the Philippines is now experiencing a critical calamity. As I watch the news on TV, I felt sad about what happen to those families who became a victim of this unpredictable calamity that happened in the country. A typhoon called Ondoy, hit some area in the Philippines. Here in my own city which is Cagayan de Oro, some area had been affected by this typhoon, I’m lucky that my family and I were all safe, that no one of us experience these bad calamities. The part that was really affected in this Typhoon is somewhere in Luzon area such as Metro Manila, Marikina, Makati, Pasig, Quezon City, Bulacan, Rizal, Valenzuela, Zambales, Nueva Ecija and many more. Other provincial areas had experience the same problem also. It says on the news that the rain fell in just six hours over Metro Manila Saturday, triggering the worst floods in nearly 40 years, stranding people on rooftops, causing wide-spread blackouts and killing some people. At this moment, it announced that 23 provinces under state of calamity. I keep watching the news on TV and through the internet for the updates of this typhoon. I ask all your prayers’ guys to PLEASE pray for those families who are victims in this typhoon. We hope that they can overcome this tragedy that happens in their lives.

Yummy Sunday #7 : Chicken Sate and Piri-piri chicken

I want to share to everyone my Yummy Sunday entry for this week. I present today the chicken Sate, which was prepared by my mother-in-law and Piri-piri chicken that she bought at the supermarket. Chicken sate and Piri-piri chicken was both marinated chicken that was prepared in different ways. I like this kind of dish because it’s simple, but it’s very delicious. You can cook this dish either in the charcoal or just in a grill pan. However, the one I presented, it was prepared in a grill pan.

Laptop problem is solved

Friday, September 25, 2009

I have been experiencing some problems in my laptop for a couple of months already. The problem was, the fan made so much noise, I thought at first that it’s just normal, that it will be gone by it self, but the longer I ignore it, the louder the sound became .Even when I just turn on the power, then about 10 minutes later, I heard already the irritating sound. It’s a bit annoying especially at night when I still used it, looks like I have a big ceiling fan under my laptop. Aside from that, if I used it for long, then the laptop became hot that even my fingers feel the hot from the keyboard. I consulted some technicians about my problem and all of them gave the same answer. That my cooling fan is probably too dusty, which can cause the fan not to function properly because it’s too dirty.

This morning, as I turned on the laptop, I was surprised that the noise was louder than before. It triggers me to bring it already to the Compaq service center. Since it’s not under warranty anymore, so I have no choice but need to pay for the service fee, it's okay for me to pay as long they can guarantee that when I get it back, it works perfect again. I’m very meticulous this time because I experience already in my previous laptop that a technician fix it but only works for 3 days.

Well, I got my laptop back now and good to know that it works pretty well again, I did not hear the irritating sounds anymore and it didn’t get hot fast too.

So whenever you experience the same problem as mine, then I guess you need to bring that to the technician before it gets worse.

Were moving to SKYPE

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Are you familiar with Skype program? Skype is software that enables the world's conversations, a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet for free. Additional features include instant messaging, file transfer and video calls in a big screen.

I’m not new in Skype, indeed, hubby and I used Skype a few years ago but we stop it because we went back to Yahoo messenger because it works better again. A few days ago, we often experience some problems in yahoo messenger, I don’t know if it’s my internet connection or my headset etc., but I suggest to my hubby to try the Skype again. Since we have an old account already, so no need for us to sign up but we install the software and directly log in, luckily we still remember our password. As we tested the Skype, it works pretty well, so hubby and I decided to use this Skype program again. The Skype program can be used also to call the landline and mobile phones almost all over the world, but it’s not for free. You need to have credits to use it to call to mobile phones or landline, so hubby and I used 10 Euro to buy some credits. As we tested to call the landline in Netherlands, it works great and it’s very clear for only 0.02 euro cents per minute. And when I tested to call the mobile phone of my hubby, same as the landline it works pretty cool for 0.25 euro cents per minute. Well calling to the landline is cheaper, even if I convert it in pesos; it’s still very cheap for an international call rate.

Skype Features

• Free Skype-to-Skype calls.
• Call phones and mobiles, send SMS.
• Free instant messaging.
• Voicemail.
• Free video calls.
• Forward calls to a phone when you’re offline.

If you’re interested to try this Skype, click here.

Hope my post here will help you to be closer to your family, friends or love ones who live across a thousand miles away from you.

The Hague Shopping Mall

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Who loves shopping? I guess mostly women love to shop, not necessarily that you must buy every time you go to the shopping mall, but just doing some window shopping. Since I keep posting here some tourist spots that I've visit, some museums etc.., this time I bring you to the shopping mall where I used to shop every time I visit the Netherlands. This is how it looks the shopping mall of The Hague, one of the big cities in Netherlands, a city where we live. It's not like our malls here in the Philippines that its one big building that almost everything you need is inside already. In The Hague, they have many small stores that connect to each other. It's one big space where you can shop until you drop. So whenever you're looking for something like electronics, then you need to go to the electronic store like Media Mart. And in case you want to buy some clothes or lingerie, then you need to get out in Media Mart store and go to H&M store,'s one of my favorite store, nice lingerie they have. So shopping there is like you get in and out in every store. Well, they also have a big store that looks like our SM Mall, but only limited like V&D and Megastore.

Wedding day of my classmate

Last Saturday morning was the wedding day of my classmate, Mhona. She was my classmate during college days and I’m so happy to know that she got married already, then I can say to her, “welcome to the married club” he he. I was informed just few days before her wedding, so I got a bit in panic on what presents I can gave to her, in fact I just shop Friday afternoon because I thought that her wedding will still be celebrate the next week. I don’t know exactly what to give to her because I don’t have much time to shop but I end up with a nice sterling wedding album. I wanted to give her a personalized gift, such as a collection of all her wedding pictures that I put in a CD and a slideshow of all the pictures. Of course to make it all neat, I bring it to the store also to put a nice cover of the CD but I’m not so well prepared for it, and she also live in the province, therefore I also can’t give it to her personally but need to send. But anyway, it’s an honor for me to be part of this big event in her life. The wedding was a big success, I can see the eyes of the couple how happy they are, all filled with joy and gladness. I know how it feels because I felt the same way when hubby and I got married last year. And I know both of them love each other and finally they came to the point to say their vows to one another.

To Mhona and Johannes, cheers!!! and best wishes.

A wedding is the ceremony in which two people are united in marriage or a similar institution. Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes. Most wedding ceremonies involve an exchange of wedding vows by the couple, presentation of a gift (offering, ring(s), symbolic item, flowers, money), and a public proclamation of marriage by an authority figure or leader.

Standing on the tank

Monday, September 21, 2009

me and my father-in-law

Have you ever take a ride in a real tank? If you ask me then I will say nope. When I was a kid, I’m curious already how those tanks look like in the inside and how hard it is to think that I also never touch it that time. But when I visit a museum here in Netherlands, I got a chance to touch it and guess what, stand it too. It’s an old tank that was used for many years ago but I don’t care for it as long it’s a tank, either old or new (LOL). I’m happy that finally I got a chance to touch it and watch it in close view. Now, when I saw a tank on TV or in a picture, I have an idea already how it looks in real. I thank my hubby for bringing me in that museum, I saw different kinds of tanks for the very first time.

A tank is a tracked, armoured fighting vehicle designed for front-line combat which combines operational mobility and tactical offensive and defensive capabilities. Firepower is normally provided by a large-calibre main gun in a rotating turret and secondary machine guns, while heavy armour and all-terrain mobility provide protection for the tank and its crew, allowing it to perform all primary tasks of the armoured troops on the battlefield. The tanks were first introduced by the French and first used in combat by the British during World War I as a means to break the deadlock of trench warfare.

Romantic Ride

This picture was taken a few years ago when my husband visited here in the Philippines. I find this picture nice and romantic, so I decide to post it here in my blog. Since hubby and I decided to stay in Manila for few days, we used our time to explore the place to think that my place is far from the capital city of the Philippines. We stay in one of the hotels that is close by in the city, and then it's easier for us to visit to some tourist spots that were not so far from where we stay. And one of the activities that we did in that time was visiting a museum that was built by the Spaniards in 16th century that is the Intramuros (I just post about the Intramuros in my travel blog). As we visit there, we saw this "kalesa" (tagalong word) or carriage that you can rent for a tour. At first I was a bit hesitant to take a ride, but later on I realized that it could be a romantic ride for me and my hubby, so we grab this opportunity to take a ride and explore some area. It was fun and we enjoy it.

What about you, have you ever tried to take a ride of a carriage?

This is not how to play badminton

One of the sports that I like to play is badminton. Last time that I was still in Netherlands, during our vacation, I really bought this badminton set, then I can play it together with my hubby and bro in law. Badminton can also be a good exercise because when you play with it, then you started to get sweat of it. At first I had too much energy because I'm too excited to play with it, but few minutes after, I start to get sweat and feeling tired. But what makes it funny when we play was our shuttlecock often stuck in the branch of the tree. The place where we play was just enough, but too many trees next to it, so if someone hit it hard, then there's the tendency that it stuck there. So when I played with it together with my bro in law, it stuck already, we tried to throw our racket to rescue the shuttlecock that stuck. When I played it again together with my husband, this time it's not just the shuttlecock that stuck, but also the racket. As usual we tried to throw the racket to rescue, but the racket did not work, but it stuck as well. Well good that my father-in-law was smart, he got a mop with long stick on it, so we used that to get our badminton set.

My talented brother

Sunday, September 20, 2009

I’m totally impressed to my younger brother Kevin because of his talent and lots of guts. He used to be a very shy kid when he was still an elementary student and when he grew up, it’s like a big transformation of himself. It reminisce me the time when he was still a kid that my papa brought him to school for just few minutes then brought him back home because his too shy to go to school. If my papa can’t make it, then either my mama brought him but it’s the same case. It became a routine for them that keep sending him to school which was totally different from the other siblings they have. We tried to understand him because we thought that his youngest in the family. So lot’s of patience that we gave to him during his elementary life, if he doesn’t like because his shy then we can’t force him to do it.

When he reached high school, he started to stick out from his shell. That’s the time he begins to transform from a shy man to a gutsy man, he gain more self confident and strong determination. He started to develop his maturity in life and of course influence by friends that surround him. He started to join some rap contest or even just a presentation at school together with his clan. His not just a rapper but his also a composer, he compose some songs that they rap. What make’s it funny was that, he used to sing some rap songs in the FM station, where those time the rapping was hit in the city. After the rapper and a composer talent, he started to learn some musical instruments, in fact his very good in playing a guitar. He has a band and his one of the guitarist. After being a guitarist, he became a dancer, they used to practice here at home some dance music that they have. We just support him for what makes him happy, because we found that better rather than he join some other clan that involve some drugs or so.

As time goes by, his now a college student, we never expect that he reach to this point to learn some magic tricks. We called him now a magician haaa, that’s his new talent. He knows some magic tricks about cards, money, a bit mind reading etc. His not that expert, but he can do some magic tricks already. I know someday he can used that talent when he started to work to think that his taking up a teaching course. He can do some ice breaker to his future students with the used of his talent.
